Paper Cutting Happy Birthday

Use a very therapeutic paper cutting technique to create this Happy Birthday card

This week, following discussions with fellow crafters at a local craft fair, I bought a paper cutting book and have had enormous fun cutting out intricate images. It's not as difficult as I thought it was going to be but it will take me more practise before I can attempt the really big pieces. This is a wasp/bee that I cut out from the book - I've laid it on orange card so you can see it better. My first attempt - I am very proud. With patience, good light and a sharp scalpel, I really enjoyed cutting it. (The wasp was taken from the 'Paper Cutting Starter Kit' by Cut & Make that I purchased from The Range).

Anyway, back to this weeks project. I thought that paper cutting would make a lovely card, so I have designed a Happy Birthday card that you can cut from standard card with minimal equipment.

I have made a background using Brusho's (something else I learned from fellow crafters last weekend!) but you could easily layer it with any coloured card you have. I will however show you how to make this background as it is good fun and you never get the same effect twice.

Little Ladybug Valentine Card

I absolutely love this stamp set from Stampin Up. I thought I'd be able to use the little ladybirds to make a frame and then when I saw the flying Ladybird it was crying out to make it pop out of the card with some sort of spring.

A valentine card made using Stampin' Up! Hedgehugs stamp set

So this week I've made a valentine card using a very cute hedgehog stamp. I've also used a large background stamp so I can show you the easiest way to use them to get the best results.

Finally ! - a way I can successfully use LARGE background stamps. The bonus with these background stamps is they are large enough to create backgrounds for the most commonly used C6 cards and you can ink them in any colour to match any project you are doing.

Birthday cake reveal wheel card

Using the reveal wheel die from Lawn Fawn to create a Birthday cake card

When I buy crafting items such as stamp sets or die cutters, I like to find as many different ways of using them as possible - crafting gadgets are not cheap! So here I am using Lawn Fawn's reveal wheel stamp and die set again to show you another way to make a fabulous card.

I was tempted to make the white card front a little more patterned as I felt it looked a little bare. However I think it gives more impact that way.

Noughts and Crosses

Or Tic-Tac-Toe - create a game that can be used in a restaurant to entertain your little ones or send to a child (small or big) in a birthday card

I've been wanting to make a portable noughts and crosses game for a while. My children and I often play this if we are waiting somewhere - for example waiting in a restaurant but we don't always have enough spare paper with us (plus think of the trees). This one is small enough to keep in my handbag for any such occasion. I even made an envelope for it using We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board to keep all the pieces together.  (Click here to see how an envelope is made).  However an envelope that would fit a 5" square card would work just as well.

You could make and post it like a little gift within a birthday card.

My favourite is the little stamped pieces but if you scroll down to the end of the instructions you can see my son and I have been playing it with die cut pieces (for those who don't like stamping) or buttons (great for anyone with dexterity issues).
